Drones and Web are Driving Data Mobility

Imagine if you could visualize engineering drawings in your digital watch or through VR and inspect site while sitting in a different continent altogether. This is the sure future of data mobility we’re talking here.

The commercial and civil government sector is embracing drone technology for its promised potential. These unmanned flying robots are soaring high on sites for collecting critical information and facilitating use cases in Mining, Solar, Smart City planning and Construction Industry. Drones are producing immense data for Infra-sector to get better at quick decision making. Let’s understand it closely. Jatin Prabhu, Government officer at Land and Revenue department of Bihar, India, had problem with the irregular property revenue being collected. He wanted elevation coordinates of buildings in different sections to calculate property tax according to the number of floors of each house.

An elevation profile was provided to Jatin on Indshine, an online drone platform that quite solved his known problem. In case Jatin had to first figure out DSM to find elevation, he would have paid a minimum of $1500 to a consultant. You see, there you saved your client’s money for good.

Case Scenario 2

Emancipate data of hardware limitations

Drone data is all good and what not. But! Yes, there is a ‘but’ which is the limitation of heavy data size that also limits its use cases. Aziz Mustafa, Government officer in Indian Railway uses a personal computer of low configuration for maintaining documents and doing related office work. For Yard planning when a local drone service provider (DSP) provided him various engineering drawings and orthomosaic he sadly failed to put rich drone data to any use.

But it’s not the end yet! Aziz had heard of Indshine’s cloud-based online platform, he asked the DSP to share the project files with him via Indshine.

First, let’s understand, what is data mobility? Data mobility means accessing data when and wherever you need it.

In India, land acquisition is the biggest problem faced by the government while rolling out any construction plan. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) planned to provide extra lanes to an existing highway in the state of Madhya Pradesh. When the officials inspected the site via drone they found that the residents have illegally acquired government’s land and they refused to vacate it. The situation was moved to court where the jury sat to understand the issue and pass the verdict. NHAI submitted the visual document via Indshine’s platform and showed (online) the jury orthomosaics to prove right of way (ROW).

NHAI won the case because the drone data presented as proof gave precise analytics that could be visualized from the court itself. If not the visual document the case would have stuck in court for years due to the lack of authentic data. Such delay in construction progress results in five times the cost incurred than the initially estimated cost. To conclude all, we looked at how deconstructing drone data to its precise usability makes it more relevant.
